Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to many questions you may have.

What should I expect with your chimney sweep service?

Excellent communications before, during, and after your appointment is first and foremost.

And if you have questions, we're here to answer!

In addition, you'll receive:

  • A full report of any issues found with your chimney

  • A cleaned chimney system

  • Full clean-up of our work - because you shouldn't have to vacuum after a job

How often should a chimney be swept?

You should have your chimney system swept annually.

For gas appliances, these do burn cleaner than a wood-burning stove but it's crucial to ensure there are no obstructions and that the chimney's structure is sound. Sweeping may not be as necessary, but an annual checkup still ensures safety and efficiency.

For wood-burning, creosote buildup needs to be cleaned and chimney inspected so that no obstructions or damage pose risk to your home.

We offer annual options for repeat customers and a first-time sweep option for those new to using First Choice which provides a more comprehensive inspection.

Can we help with chimney swifts?

Yes, we can help prevent chimney swifts from returning - but if they are still in the next, they cannot be disturbed. That's because these migratory birds are protected by federal law in the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and it's illegal to distrub them.

If you've had chimney swifts previously, getting your chimney cleaned and a cap installed will prevent them from returning in the future. And they're known to return to their nests, so this is absolutely recommended!

If they're in your chimney now, we can plan on servicing your chimney once they're gone.

What is the average cost of a chimney sweep near me?

Our first-time chimney inspection and sweep is $350 for a single system, though price can vary depending on the amount of fireplaces, chimneys, and flues in your home.

This service cleans your chimney and includes an in-depth inspection and report that allows you to fully understand any issues that would pose a risk to your home if you used it ... and a plan of action to fully address.
