Inspections
Inspections are an essential part of chimney maintenance and home safety that is why every sweep we do comes with an inspection. We offer three different levels of chimney inspections based on your needs. Please see below to see which level inspection you may need.
"A level 2 inspection is required during any kind of real estate transfer (buying, selling, inheritance, etc.)."
Level 1 Inspection
Level 1 inspections are recommended for annual service visits with no changes to the system from the previous inspection. During this service, technicians do not need to use tools to open or remove doors, panels, or coverings in order to examine the chimney exterior or interior.
This service is not recommended for systems experiencing any issues or if it has been 2+ years since your last inspection.
In a Level 1 inspection, your chimney service technician should examine the readily accessible** portions of the chimney exterior, interior and accessible* portions of the appliance and the chimney connection. Your technician will be looking for the basic soundness of the chimney structure and flue as well as the basic appliance installation and connections. The technician will also verify the chimney is free of obstruction and combustible deposits.
** Readily Accessible: Exposed, or capable of being exposed, for operation, inspection, maintenance or repair without the use of tools to open or remove doors, panels or coverings.
What's involved?
A basic assessment of your chimney system condition
Visual inspection of readily accessible areas of the chimney system
If you are getting a sweep, a full cleaning of the chimney system (as accessible) to remove any combustible deposits.
Written report of inspection findings with color photos and any repair recommendations.
Level 3 Inspection
Level 3 inspections are a little more rare.
Level 3 inspections are conducted only after a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection indicates a hazard in concealed portions of the chimney and flue.
Involves the removal, and possibly destruction, of portions of the chimney or building structure, as necessary. Requires special tools and access to concealed areas of the chimney and flue.

Level 2 Inspection
Level 2 inspections are required during any kind of real estate transfer (buying, selling, etc.).
Level 2 inspections are also recommended if you have never had an inspection completed or more than 2-3 years since last inspection, after any changes/modifications have been made to the system, if the system has had any damage such as a fire, storm damage, etc.), or if you are experiencing any issues.
A Level 2 inspection shall also include a visual inspection by scanning internally with a camera or other means in order to examine the internal surfaces and joints of all flue liners incorporated within the chimney. No removal or destruction of permanently attached portions of the chimney or building structure or finish shall be required by a Level 2 inspection. A Level 2 inspection includes everything in a Level 1 inspection, plus the accessible* portions of the chimney exterior and interior including attics, crawl spaces and basements. It will address proper clearances from combustibles in accessible locations.
* Accessible: May require the use of commonly available tools to remove doors, panels or coverings, but will not damage the chimney or building structure or finish.
